The success of Gallery V1 prompted Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to expand its original footprint to span across 2 floors and 2 wings of its office building.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic back story, the new MAS Gallery is designed to be an entirely “non-touch” interactive experience, and a “green gallery”: featuring floor vinyl tiles made with recycled materials.

<p>The gallery narrative follows a series of &#8220;themes&#8221;: topics that allow visitors to gradually understand the principals and development of our economy. As this approach cuts across the various departmental roles of MAS, a special task force and approval process was set-up to facilitate the curatorial process.

<p>Strong, geometrical lines convey a sense of movement and rigor. The gallery interplays form, lighting and media to create compelling narrative spaces. Self-illuminated graphics in combination with environmental lighting creates a layered, yet uniform and pleasant viewing experience.

From a rich palette of 3D assets and land reclamation &#038; removal tools, the user can turn Marina Bay into an industrial park, a residential estate, or even a large resort. In fact, He can re-shape Marina Bay anyway he wishes, limited only by his imagination.

<p>The centrepiece of the revamped gallery, this immersive and interactive space is visually stunning yet engaging. It is created with an interactive LED floor and touch sensitive wall where contents react to visitors’ every movement. Visitors witness how the city runs like a clockwork underground, where urban sub-systems of water, waste, energy, greenery, and transport synergise with each other, and our limited resources are managed efficiently.
<p>
After the show, visitors can interact with the projection wall to find out how they can change their lifestyle to help reduce the loads on our infrastructure.</p>

<p>5 Pepper’s Ghost units lines the exit to the Flower Dome. Each tells a story of how plants adapt to its environment. Images reflecting off the special glass are projected onto carefully crafted models and lighting effects, creating stories of wildfire, the four seasons, drought, and other spectacular scenes.</p>

<p>Multi-channel soundscapes provide an aural backdrop to the domes. Imagine feeling like you&#8217;re inside a bat cave at the “Crystal Mountains” and then finding yourself at the “Cloud Forest” as you exit the “mountain”. Visitors can also listen to rare sounds underground, like slimy worms crawling and termites head-butting.</p>

<p>3 documentaries &#8211; “Batik Making”, “Wood Carving”, and “Pandan Weaving” are sreened on a video wall in an open pavilion. The filming took us to the Kampungs in Malaysia, where we looked at how traditional Malay art epitomizes how people and plants can live harmoniously.</p>

<p>In the finale, visitors walk into a tropical rainstorm and collect the water droplets using Korean Hanji paper. As the water diffuses over the paper, it carries with it pre-dyed ink, making interesting colour patterns on the paper. In an almost spiritual and symbolic way, we want visitors to know that every drop counts.</p>

<p>The video introduces its audience to Singapore’s vibrant lifestyle and explores the meaning of “home”.</p>

This is juxtaposed against the 270 degrees backdrop of “Singapore, Vibrant City”. </p>
<p>Created using “Processing” programming language, the “Touchstones” interface is fluid, and organic.</p>

<p>As Gallery Two oversees the huge Central Area Map (CAM) model, the CAM Surveyor provides an experiential link for visitors on the mezzanine level to the large model below. Being on the “history” gallery, “CAM Surveyor” is an Augmented scope that tells interesting stories about the central area, through discovery of hotspots on the CAM.</p>
<p><em>Concept Plan / Master Plan</em></p>
<p>Ending the “history” section is today’s plan. At the end of Gallery 2 is the Concept Plan / Master Plan area, where the process of planning is explained. The current Master Plan can be accessed live via a web kiosk.</p>

<p>The best way to understand the difficulty in space planning is to do it yourself.</p>
<h2 class="orange">Gallery Four: SingCity</h2>
<p>“SingCity” is an 8-player role-play game. Players are asked to fulfill national goals and are given different sets of things to build. From infrastructure, to amenities, to residential and commercial buildings, players are scored based on how well they meet the objectives. They soon run out of land, as is with any city planner, but with good planning, they might still achieve a very high score.</p>
<p>At the end of the round, players get a copy of their city in the mail.</p>

<p>Residing within the conservation zone, “A Brush with History” is an IR based multi-touch wall that allows users to wipe and reveal portions of an old photo of a conservation area. A recent photo is taken in the exact same way as the old photo, so visitors can playfully compare and mix the 2 eras.</p>

<p>A large scale interactive allows visitors to re-make China Square in 3D, and appreciate the “massing” context of the space, where there is high-rise at the background and conservation in front. Visitors can also visualize how Orchard Road might look like, if certain elements of Urban Design are missing.</p>

<p>A projection mapped show on the Central Area Model (CAM) comes on at intervals. For 3 minutes, the large-scale projection show becomes the highlight of the gallery. A total of 4 projectors are needed to cover the entire projection area.</p>

<p>Multimedia people was engaged to produce the media content for the LED skin and facade, water jet and lightshows as well as ambient media walls located around underground perimeters. We also curated the digital flipdot sculpture “Waterfall” by renown UK artist Troika.</p>
<p>To complete the picture, Multimedia People continued to provide full advisory on design development, playback architecture, events, exhibition programming, PR and other operation matters after the mall has opened.</p>

<p>The most famous of the ambient media walls is themed &#8220;Water&#8221;. With animated fishes swimming above and alongside visitors, one feels as if they are under water as they move through the space.</p>

<p>Multimedia People was engaged in a year long process to investigate, propose an exhibition concept, assist in engaging a design team, and eventually produce all the media contents.</p>

<p>FusionWorld boasts many feats. First, it is a visitor centre that has a 4096 pixel long digital video that spans 180 degree in the launch theatre. The show was produced on film and eventually edited on 4K digital format.</p>

<p>In FusionWorld, visitors also find themselves interacting with video characters through natural dialog, as well as hand gestures, or RIFD objects in different zones of HOME, WORK, HEALTHCARE and TRANSPORT. </p>
<p>In TRANSPORT, visitors ride on bikes and journey through a 4D-stereoscopic futuristic landscape.</p>

<p>Interactives like “Life’s labyrinth” and “Smart Station” engages visitors young and old.</p>
<p>&#8220;Life&#8217;s labyrinth&#8221; is a tilt-table labyrinth game with different maze designs. Visitors navigate through the maze to avoid the pitfalls in life, by tilting and activating a flight accelerometer.</p>

<p>“Smart Station” is a 3D, real-time interactive robot that converse with the visitors through play station style control precise lip-sync, through a proprietary software developed in the US. The virtual host plays games interactively with the visitors through pre-designed quizzes and videos.</p>
